MISS KIM MARTIN MED

General Principal

As Principal of AGS, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another wonderful year at Alaqsite'w Gitpu School. We are excited to have you back in the classrooms. Our goal is to help every child feel welcome to the AGS Family.

The teachers have been in workshops about topics relating to being trauma-informed and a refresher course in classroom management skills. The refresher course is in conjunction with a new school-wide matrix of positive reinforcement we shall introduce soon.

We are also planning to have a Home & School Committee to help with some school activities and to play a role in fundraising and special events. Please remember if you wish to volunteer, you must have an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Check from the local police department.

I am honoured to work as your Alasite’w Gitpu Principal and look forward to serving you in the future.

Ms. Kim Martin, M.Ed

AGS Education Philosophy

Our educators deliver educational programs and services rooted in Mi’gmaw worldviews (knowledges, values, and language) and Western theory and knowledge; staff support student wellbeing and success as lifelong learners; and make certain that students can successfully transfer to an equivalent grade in the provincial educational system.

It is the express purpose of the Listuguj community to provide students with an education that fully enhances a learner’s academic success and wellbeing along holistic (emotional, spiritual, physical, and intellectual) and lifelong learning pathways. This education philosophy reflects Mi’gmaq beliefs and efforts at encouraging the responsibility of the people at directing themselves to their full potential, and a lifelong love of learning. This statement supports the commitment to the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government’s (LMG) Mission Statement to preserve, promote and protect Mi’gmaq Culture and Language.
