Important Updates for Middle School Students

Gwe’ Parents & Guardians,

We are excited to share an important update as we prepare for the new school year at AGS!

This year, we are introducing a Middle School model for students in Grades 5–8. Students will continue to have a homeroom, but throughout the day they will travel to different classrooms and work with teachers who specialize in different subject areas, including:

• Literacy

• Math

• Science

• Social Studies

• Fine Arts

• STEAM

• Core French

• Mi’gmaq Core

We are really excited to give this model a try this year and see the opportunities it creates for our students. A Middle School model helps students build greater independence and responsibility, prepares them for the transition to high school, and gives them the opportunity to learn from and build relationships with different teachers throughout the day.

Important Lunch Update for Middle School Families

With the ongoing construction of our school expansion and the increased activity around our school grounds, we have also made an important change for this school year.

Middle School students will not be permitted to leave school grounds on their own during lunchtime.

If a student needs to leave during lunch, they must be picked up or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students will not be permitted to leave school grounds unsupervised.

We know this is different from previous years, and we thank our families in advance for your understanding and cooperation. With the construction and expansion happening around our school, this decision comes down to one thing: the safety and well-being of our students.

There is a lot happening at AGS, and our team has been working hard to make sure everything is ready to welcome our students back. We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to learning, growing, and trying some new things together!
