Alaqsite'w Gitpu School Expansion Project 2026-27

The Listuguj Education Directorate is pleased to announce a $3.1M investment in the expansion of Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 20^th, 2026, and work is expected to continue through August 2027.

This exciting two-storey addition will create a permanent home for our English Nursery and English Kindergarten classrooms, currently located at the Education Complex, as well as for the Guidance and Social Work department, which until recently operated from two trailers in front of our school. 

A New Home for Our Guidance and Social Work Department

For more than a decade, trailers have served as much-needed additional space for the Alaqsite’w Gitpu School. While they helped meet our growing needs, we’re excited to replace them with a more welcoming space for our students and support services.

Welcoming our Youngest Learners Back to AGS

Bringing our English Nursery / Kindergarten students back to AGS will have several benefits. Most notably, children will become familiar with the school environment, routines, staff, and older students from the very beginning, making the transition much smoother and reducing anxiety. Students will also have direct access to the many supports available within the school as of their first days at AGS.

What to Expect During the Demolition and Construction Phases

Construction will begin with the removal of the trailers near the student drop-off area in front of our school. For everyone’s safety, the site will be fenced off throughout this first phase. This summer, please ensure your children stay clear of the worksite.

There will also be temporary changes to our staff parking and parent drop-off area. More detailed information will be shared at a later date.
